About Joe Baker
I graduated from University of Otago in 2003. After spending two years as a House Surgeon in Christchurch and Auckland I traveled to the Republic of Ireland. I intended to spend a year away on an 'OE'. This stretched into 10 years in Ireland during which time I completed specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery. Through spending time in the National Spinal Injuries Unit and Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Dublin my interest in Spine Surgery was set.
I then completed sub specialist training in New York at the NYU Langone Medical Centre and Hospital for Joint Diseases in Spine Surgery including Adult and Paediatric Spine Surgery. I complemented this with 6 months at Auckland City Hospital gaining further experience in Adult Spine Surgery.
I now work across both the public and private sectors providing care for patients with spinal conditions. I consult privately at Midland Orthopaedics and Spine and Cambridge Family Health (monthly). I operate at both Braemar and Southern Cross Hospitals.
